handwoven artwork created to last for years to come
a contemporary exploration
of fiber as sculpture
These new works embrace the process of intentionally manipulating the handwoven elements, once released from the tension of the loom. The woven artworks are ethereally framed by a natural birch wood panel, creating an opportunity for exciting new texture and dimension.

Each piece is handwoven with diverse fibers that embody sustainability and nostalgia. Sari silk, handspun art yarn, chiffon ribbon, recycled cotton cord, torn velvet, vintage yarn, locally dyed wool, upcycled fabric and more.
Weavings are sewed onto ethically foraged branches or driftwood, bringing an element of nature into the work.
The fibers often seem to have a mind of their own, and I rarely reproduce my weavings. The nature of fibers and the artist’s hand ensure each weaving is one of a kind. I can do custom work inspired by a previously made piece, carrying a similar energy without being a mirrored reproduction.
All works are handwoven with care by artist Kate Laing in her cozy Omaha, Nebraska home studio.
Hello, I’m kate laing
I’m inspired by the wildness of nature and the ever-changing beauty of our earth, a constant source of wonder. As a collector of fibers, sticks, and stories…
I have spent nearly a decade weaving a narrative of heirloom quality fiber art, the beauty of nature, and the Lionheart community.
Currently based in Omaha, Nebraska, I am originally from Arizona and continue to feel a connection to the vast landscapes of the American Southwest.
Someday I would love for Lionheart Canyon to be a real place in the desert for creative minds to gather. In the meantime, this is a space for those of us who crave exploration… and still desire to return to a cozy home at day’s end.
